Premier Ranj Pillai congratulates new federal Liberal leader

Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:

“I want to congratulate Mark Carney on his election as the new leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and Canada’s next Prime Minister.

“Across the Yukon and Canada, we recognize the importance of unified national leadership as we navigate the uncertainties caused by the Trump administration’s unjustified tariffs threats. Now, more than ever, Canadians need decisive leadership to protect our economy and way of life. I look forward to working closely with Prime Minister-designate Carney to address the needs and priorities of Yukoners and Canadians.

“I urge Prime Minister-designate Carney to work with our government to responsibly advance critical minerals projects, invest in the dual use infrastructure that is necessary for Arctic Security and Northern sovereignty, wind down the carbon tax, invest in our health and housing systems and honour the commitments made to Yukon First Nations in the Umbrella Final Agreement and Yukon First Nations Final Agreements.

“I want to extend my sincere gratitude to Justin Trudeau for his leadership over the past nine plus years. Under his guidance our governments have achieved significant milestones for Yukoners and I appreciate his collaboration and dedication to Canadians.

“I look forward to continued collaboration between the Yukon and our federal counterparts as we work to bring the priorities of Yukoners to the national stage and improve the lives of all Canadians.”
