The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting youth aged 18 to 35 to become members of the NWT Climate Change Youth Council (CCYC). This opportunity offers young Northerners the chance to contribute to shaping the territory’s climate change response and resiliency efforts.

The CCYC provides youth with an opportunity to share their experiences, perspectives, and innovative ideas on climate change. CCYC members will help advise the GNWT on policy, engage with decision-makers, and inspire climate action among their peers.

Benefits of Joining the NWT Climate Change Youth Council:

  • Amplify your voice on climate change issues affecting the NWT.
  • Contribute ideas to help shape territorial policies and programs.
  • Develop leadership and advocacy skills.
  • Network with other environmental advocates and leaders.
  • Receive an honorarium for participation.

Members will be expected to engage with their community—including other youth and elders—and bring their voices to regular in-person and virtual meetings. In return, members will get an opportunity to learn about policy making, connect with GNWT staff and have their input influence the recommendations made by NWT Climate Change Council.

Youth from all five regions of the NWT, regardless of experience level, are encouraged to apply. Diverse voices and perspectives are key to building strong, inclusive climate solutions for the territory.

To apply, complete and submit the application form by May 28, 2025.
