The Department of Health would like to advise Nunavummiut of changes to the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) prevention program.

Previously, Nunavut offered a monoclonal antibody called SYNAGIS to the highest risk infants. This product needed to be given once a month during the RSV season.

After extensive review, Health Canada has approved new products for both infants and Elders. Based on the recommendation of the National Advisory Committee on Immunizations of these newer, more effective products, Nunavut is now able to offer a longer-acting monoclonal antibody called BEYFORTUS to all Nunavut infants at or shortly after birth.

Additionally, Nunavummiut 75 years of age and older are being offered a one-time dose of a vaccine called ABRYSVO that can prevent RSV.

For more information about vaccines talk to your health care provider.
