Kivalliq Inuit Association Denounces Allegations
November 10, 2025
The Kivalliq Inuit Association (KIA) is issuing this statement to address and condemn the recent illegal blockades impacting Agnico Eagle’s meliadine Gold Mine Operations and allegations circulating regarding its participation in the Terrestrial Advisory Group (TAG), which is an advisory group that provides technical oversight on Agnico Eagle’s Meliadine Gold Mine project’s impact management mitigation and monitoring measures related to the protection of terrestrial wildWe and wildlife habitat.
KIA is only one of the members of the TAG, along w,th Agnico Eagle, a number of Hunters and Trappers Organizations, and others. As a forum for ongoing cooperation and communication among the members, the TAG makes recommendations to Agnico Eagle by unanimous consensus among all members. As an advisory group, the TAG has no authority to enter into terms and conditions or address non-wildlife protection related matters.
The KIA is committed to transparency, accountability and upholding the principles of democracy in all its operations. We encourage open communication and constructive engagement to resolve any misunderstandings and to ensure that our collective efforts benefit the Inch of the Kivalliq Region.
The KIA is deeply concerned by the unfounded accusations and attempts to undermine the organization. These allegations are expressly denied and are not only false but also damaging to the integrity of KIA and its commitment to representing the interests of the Inuit of the Kivalliq Region.
The KIA also unequivocally denies any collusion with Panic° Eagle MAPS (ADM) or any attempt to silence or undermine any elected member. Our decision to withdraw from the TAG meeting was based on legitimate concerns regarding conflict of interest and was necessary to protect KIA employees from a situation of potential conflict.
The IPA looks forward to meeting with the TAG at the next scheduled meeting in January 2026 and we remain committed to working with Agnes Eagle, Nunavot Tunngayik incorporated ANTI), the Nunavut Impact Review Board (SIRE) and other relevant parties to achieve our shared goals of environmental stewardship and sustainable development in the Kwallip Region.
