GN announces grand opening of Chesterfield Inlet Air Terminal Building

Chesterfield Inlet, Nunavut (April 16, 2025) – The Government of Nunavut (GN) today announced the opening of the Chesterfield Inlet Air Terminal Building, marking the second airport opening supported by the National Trade Corridors Fund, a Government of Canada initiative supporting the expansion and modernization of Nunavut’s airport infrastructure.

To celebrate the occasion, Transportation and Infrastructure Minister David Joanasie was joined by Minister of Community Services David Akeeagok, Rankin Inlet North-Chesterfield Inlet MLA Alexander Sammurtok and Mayor Simionie Sammurtok.

“This is another step forward in the revitalization of our airport network,” Minister Joanasie said. “These projects are critical to improving connectivity and supporting economic growth in Nunavut. Thank you to our funding partners at Transport Canada and the community and to all of those involved in the construction.”
