Family Services administering seniors’ burial benefit to cover some of the cost of burials

The Department of Family Services administers the Seniors Burial Benefit to help cover certain costs of a burial to help relieve some of the strain of losing a family member.
Families of Nunavut residents 60 years or older who are being buried in Nunavut are eligible to receive this benefit.
To be considered to receive the benefit, applicants must contact their Family Services office to complete an application. Applicants must provide proof of death, such as a death certificate and an invoice or receipt for the burial costs.
The Seniors Burial Benefit covers costs including:
- Preparation of the deceased.
- Transportation of the body to the community burial site.
- Casket.
- Grave marker.
- Administrative fees.
