Canadian North Midnight Sun Classic Golf Tournament to Include Celebrity Athletes and Grey Cup

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: June 15, 2015 – Yellowknife, NWT – Canadian North, the official airline of the Canadian Football League, will once again host the annual Canadian North Midnight Sun Classic Golf Tournament, being held Friday, June 19 and Saturday, June 20 at the Yellowknife Golf Club. The tournament will feature a “Midnight Sun Classic” 9-hole round beginning Friday evening at midnight, as well as two 18-hole “Championship Flights”, beginning Friday at 6:00 pm and Saturday at 9:00 am. Tournament registration is available through the Yellowknife Golf Club at www.yellowknifegolfclub.com. In addition to the action on the golf course, this year the airline has arranged a particularly exciting program with some very notable guests:

  • In celebration of this year’s tournament, the airline will bring the Grey Cup trophy to Yellowknife. Participants will be able to see and take personal photos with the cup throughout the tournament, including at the pre-tee off Tailgate Party being held at the golf club on Friday from 7:30 pm – 10:30 pm. A limited number of Tailgate Party tickets are available for advance purchase only for $15.00 from the Yellowknife Golf Club.
  • Fans of all ages will be able to view and take personal photos with the Grey Cup at a special public viewing event at the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) on Saturday between 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm. The airline will also bring the Grey Cup to several surprise locations around Yellowknife on Friday morning and afternoon.
  • NHL star and Canadian North spokesperson Jordin Tootoo will participate in the Canadian North Midnight Sun Classic Golf Tournament. He also will make a public appearance at the National Aboriginal Day Fish Fry and Stage Show at Somba K’e Park on Saturday at noon and will  be signing copies of his book All the Way: My Life On Ice there from 1:10 pm to 3:00 pm (The Yellowknife Book Cellar will have copies on hand, available for purchase).
  • Edmonton Eskimos alumni and Grey Cup-winning team members Jed Roberts and Rob Brown will also participate in the Midnight Sun Classic Golf Tournament. They will be on hand during the Grey Cup appearances scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Jed Roberts will also appear at the National Aboriginal Day Fish Fry and Stage Show at Somba K’e Park on Saturday at noon.
