Statement from Premier Ranj Pillai on the Teslin Tlingit Council election
Sept. 13, 2024
Premier Ranj Pillai has issued the following statement:
“On behalf of the Government of Yukon, I offer congratulations to Elizabeth Bosely on her historic election as Naa Sháade Háni-elect (Chief-elect) and to Tod Smarch, elected as Deputy Naa Sháade Háni for the Teslin Tlingit Council.
“Naa Sháade Háni-elect Elizabeth Bosely’s leadership marks a pivotal moment as she becomes the first woman to hold the position of Naa Sháade Háni of the Teslin Tlingit Council. She brings a diverse wealth of knowledge and experience that will be invaluable in her new role, driving impactful leadership and meaningful progress.
“I want to thank Naa Sháade Háni Eric Morris for his life-long commitment and dedication in service to his People and to Yukon First Nations. Naa Sháade Háni Eric Morris also served as Council of Yukon First Nations Grand Chief and represented the Yukon as Regional Vice-Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.
“During his recent term, Naa Sháade Háni Morris oversaw key milestones such as signing a heat purchase agreement to supply Teslin’s Khàtìnas.àxh Community School with heat from the Teslin Tlingit Council’s biomass facility and receiving funding for a three-year research project called Win-Win Solutions for Climate Change Adaptation. This project helps implement the Teslin North Timber Harvest Plan and the 2023 Teslin Community Wildfire Protection Plan. I am grateful for the wisdom and guidance he has generously shared over the years.
“The Government of Yukon values our government-to-government relationship with the Teslin Tlingit Council. I look forward to our continued collaboration with the new Naa Sháade Háni and Deputy Naa Sháade Háni.”
