Iqaluit, Nunavut – October 27, 2022 – The Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) is pleased to announce the launch of year three of the Qikiqtani Qimuksiqtiit Project (QQP) designed to assist Inuit with the maintenance of their dog teams.

QQP provides funding to Qikiqtani Inuit who are established qimmiit practitioners. Each successful applicant will receive $3,000 as a one-time payment. The money received can go towards anything needed to support your dog team, including, but not limited to, dog food, harnesses, qamutik material and rope.

“The continuation of dog teaming in our region is an imperative aspect to cultural revitalization and healing within our people and I am proud of the progress we’ve made to date. We will continue our path to Saimaqatigiingniq and will continue to make meaningful progress on the recommendations of the Qikiqtani Truth Commission.” said Olayuk Akesuk, QIA President.

Qikiqtani Inuit who have five dogs or more can apply for the QQP, including those who applied in 2021 and 2020. The application form can be accessed on the QIA website (www.qia.ca/qikiqtani-qimuksiqtiit-project), and can be completed with assistance from your local Community Liaison Officer or, by contacting Tracy Partridge at 867-975-8377 or tpartridge@qia.ca.

The deadline for applications is December 31, 2022. Successful applicants will receive funds by January 31, 2023.
