NWMB Moving to a Three (3) Meeting-a-Year Regular Meeting Schedule

by ahnationtalk on January 18, 202434 Views

Dear Co-management Partners

On behalf of the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB), we wish to inform you of an important change regarding NWMB’s Regular Meeting (RM) schedule. The NWMB has decided to transition from holding four public RMs to three public RMs each year, starting in 2024.

The meetings will take place in March, June, and October for 2024. However, please note that this is a transition year. Starting in 2025 our RM months will be February, June, and October. We will provide more information when we get closer to each meeting month.

The transition to a three-meeting schedule by the NWMB offers several advantages for both the Board and its co-management partners. Firstly, under the revised schedule, co-management partners will have more time to respond in writing to submissions that require a Board decision. This added flexibility allows partners to carefully craft their responses, ensuring that their perspectives and concerns are thoroughly considered in the decision-making process.

Note that co-management partners will still retain the option to provide input verbally at the Regular Meetings, whether in person or remotely, just as they do under the current practice. This maintains the vital aspect of open and direct communication between partners and the NWMB.

It’s essential to emphasize that this new schedule does not eliminate the possibility of additional meetings if the need arises. The NWMB remains committed to flexibility and responsiveness, and if extraordinary circumstances dictate, additional meetings can be convened to address specific issues or urgent matters.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. We appreciate your ongoing support as we collaboratively work towards the betterment of wildlife management in Nunavut.

If you have any questions, please contact the staff at the NWMB at Sincerely

Daniel Shewchuk

Chairperson of the NWMB
