Nunavut Carbon Credit Payments in 2024-25
Nunavummiut will receive the first Nunavut Carbon Credit payment for the 2024-25 fiscal year on July 5, 2024. The Nunavut Carbon Credit is a non-taxable payment from the Government of Nunavut (GN) designed to help Nunavummiut offset the price of carbon-based fuels.
For 2024-25, the Nunavut Carbon Credit is a total of $100 per individual per year, issued as a $25.00 payment every three months.
The next payment will be on October 5, 2024, and payments will occur on a quarterly basis thereafter – on January 5, April 5, July 5 and October 5 in each year the credit is offered.
There is no application required. Nunavummiut who have filed their 2023 taxes will be immediately enrolled for the Nunavut Carbon Credit. Those who have not filed taxes but are eligible can update their personal information with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) to ensure they receive this credit and any other benefits they may be entitled to.
Nunavummiut enrolled in direct deposit with the CRA will receive a payment directly to their bank account; otherwise, a cheque will be sent to the individual. Payments for children or dependents will be made to the tax filer who claims them on their tax return.
