NTI: Inuktut Writing Prize Update

by ahnationtalk on March 22, 202131 Views

(March 22, 2021 – Iqaluit, Nunavut)  The Inuktut Writing Prize received submissions from 67 different authors, encompassing a variety of writing styles including short stories, poetry, and biographies. Due to the high number of submissions, November and December COVID-19 lockdown and unforeseen circumstances, the jury process is on-going and the prize will be announced as soon as possible.

Nunavut Tunngavik Foundation extends its thanks to Nunavut Inuit for their submissions and patience as the jury process continues.

The protection, promotion, and revitalization of Inuktut—in all aspects of life in Nunavut—is one of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated’s priorities. The Inuktut Writing Prize will contribute to achieving this goal, creating Inuktut literature and increasing the everyday use and understanding of Inuktut.

The Inuktut Writing Prize will award one author with $80,000 and support to continue writing over a year, including a writing residency and mentorship, to develop the material into a book. Four additional prizes will be awarded in the values of $10,000, $5,000, $3,000 and $2,000. Nunavut Tunngavik Federation will work with the winning author to complete and publish a book and a compilation of the other materials submitted.
