Nomination Period Opens for 2024 QIA Elections

Iqaluit, Nunavut, November 4, 2024 – Notice is hereby given to the Members of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) that an election will be held on December 9, 2024.

If you are interested in being a candidate, the nomination period is now open and will close on Friday, November 8, 2024, 5:00pm local time.

The 2024 election will be held for 8 positions on the QIA Board of Directors:

  • Vice-President – Qikiqtani Region
  • Secretary Treasurer – Qikiqtani Region
    Community Director – Arctic Bay
    Community Director – Kinngait
    Community Director – Grise Fiord
    Community Director – Pangnirtung
    Community Director – Qikiqtarjuaq
    Community Director – Resolute Bay

If you are interested in becoming a candidate, you are required to provide a criminal records check completed within the last three months. Potential nominees are encouraged to start this process with the RCMP immediately.
Nomination forms are available from the Chief Returning Officer, QIA Community Liaison Officers, Ayaya Marketing and Communications, or from QIA’s website, www.qia.ca/elections.

  • Candidate requirements are as follows:
  • You are Inuk, as stated in the Nunavut Agreement;
  • You are 16 years of age;
  • You have been a resident of the Qikiqtani region for a period of longer than a year,
  • You are a resident of the electoral community you are running for
  • You completed a criminal record check within the last three months.
