The Government of Yukon is committed to improving access to housing across the territory and is pleased to announce that a new multi-family building, to be located on the site of the former Korbo Apartments in Dawson City, is now advancing toward construction tender.

The former building was demolished and removed from the site in 2011 following a significant heating oil spill in 2010. The vacant lot has since been fully remediated and backfilled.

The construction tendering period began last Friday, April 26. This will be followed by bid evaluations once the tendering period closes. The tender will be awarded in early summer 2024, with groundbreaking expected later this summer. Construction is anticipated to be completed by end of 2025, followed by tenanting in early 2026. Further project details will be provided over the coming weeks and months.

The project will increase the number of affordable homes in Dawson and help reduce the housing shortage in the community.

Yukon Housing Corporation consulted on the new building’s conceptual design and functional planning with community partners including the Tr’ondek Hwech’in First Nation, Klondike Development Organization, City of Dawson and Chief Isaac Inc.

In addition to creating employment opportunities and economic growth in Dawson, this development will help alleviate the pressures on affordable housing options available to Yukoners and enable tenants to create a sense of home in their community.

This project is yet another outstanding example of our government’s efforts to create more affordable housing options across the territory. Thanks to the good work of the Yukon Housing Corporation, we look forward to community members in Dawson being able to call this new building home.

Premier and Minister responsible for Yukon Housing Corporation Ranj Pillai
