Media Advisory – Assembly of First Nations 3rd Annual National Water Symposium and Tradeshow November 20-22, 2019

TORONTO, Nov. 19, 2019 – The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is hosting its 3rd Annual National Water Symposium and Tradeshow from November 20-22, 2019, at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto, ON. The Symposium will build on the 2nd National Water Symposium dialogue, showcase innovation and new approaches to improving access to safe drinking water and sanitation, and provide an opportunity to ensure all governments are clear on the goals, objectives and priorities for First Nations in the post-2021 water future.

Ontario Regional Chief RoseAnne Archibald and Manitoba Regional Chief Kevin
Hart will provide opening remarks on Day 1.

AFN is advocating with all governments on the need to improve access to drinking water and sanitation for First Nations. “Water” was a specific section in the AFN’s election priorities document released prior to the recent federal election: Honouring Promises: 2019 Federal Election Priorities for First Nations and Canada.  As of October 2019, there are 57 long-term drinking water advisories in effect in First Nations.
