Position Summary

Interior Health’s Corporate Clinical Specialty Education Program invites applications for the role of Leader, Specialty Education, Peri-operative Services.We are looking for a knowledgeable Leader, Specialty Education, Perioperative Services with previous clinical experience in Perioperative Services, such as Operating Room and/or Post Anesthesia Recovery, and experience or educational preparation in project management and/or program development.

As a member of the Regional Practice-Clinical Education Team, you will be required to lead the AORN Peri-operative curriculum roll-out within Interior Health (IH), and provide direction in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of this specific Specialty Education Program. Reporting to the Regional Practice Leader – Clinical Education you will draw upon your ability to develop and maintain business processes, policies, and procedures to support the management of the Specialty Education program and act as the primary liaison with post-secondary institutions.

Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Identifies and assesses both regional and site-based perioperative specialty education needs and recommends the appropriate program of study to meet organizational requirements.
• Reviews program delivery processes and ensures that resources are allocated and utilized effectively and efficiently in meeting the specialty education needs of IH.
• Manages annual capital and operating budgets for specialty education, ensuring efficient utilization of financial resources that are supportive of the provision of services.
• Conducts regular reviews of specialty education programs and identifies alternative and innovative models of delivery to meet changing organizational needs, while maximizing the efficiency of specialty education funding within the allocated budget.
• In collaboration with Human Resources, contributes to the development of a standardized methodology to support the accuracy of forecasting specialty education needs and maintenance of talent management databases for succession planning initiatives.
• Develops and maintains effective methods of tracking specialty education data, including program completion, funding allocation, and recruitment and retention data.
• Provides leadership to identify and facilitate opportunities for integration and partnerships to continuously improve and advance the delivery of specialty education across IH.
• Builds and maintains relationships with operational leaders and staff within IH and other internal and external stakeholders for the purpose of coordinating specialty education.
• Represents IH to external agencies, post-secondary institutions, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Advanced Education, and other provincial Health Authorities.
• Collaborates with individuals and groups in the identification and development of alternate models of delivery and develops plans and/or programs to respond to changing specialty education needs.
• Develops and leads the implementation of streamlined processes for program enrollment and registration and monitors and evaluates processes, implementing changes as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education, Training, and Experience:
• A Bachelor’s degree in a health-related field.
• Five to seven years of recent clinical experience in a complex healthcare environment.
• Previous clinical experience in Perioperative Services, such as Operating Room/Post Anesthesia Recovery, is preferred.
• Previous experience or educational preparation in project management and/or program development is preferred.
• Previous experience with Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) would be an asset.
• Previous management experience and/or experience managing budgets would be an asset.LEADS Capabilities
