The Gathering Place is a non-profit, street level, community health centre that provides primary health care along with community partners, to thousands of people who are homeless or precariously housed, through health and social supports in an inclusive, low barrier setting. Based in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, for the past 25 years, The Gathering Place is committed to building community among Guests, volunteers, and the team, promoting equality, personal dignity, independence, care for all persons, and self-respect. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director provides passionate, executive leadership and management for the organization’s strategic plan, project administration, programs and services and plays a vital role in assuring The Gathering Place’s success. The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management, direction and growth for The Gathering Place. This includes ensuring financial sustainability of the organization, facilitating strategic and operational planning, building and expanding relationships and partnerships, building capacity among staff and volunteers and ensuring effective program delivery, overseeing responsible financial management and administration, and supporting effective governance. The Executive Director will be the champion for ensuing the organization lives out its mission and values. They are also the lead spokesperson for any media requests, and will participate in presentations, panel discussions, and conferences to help raise the profile of The Gathering Place.
As the ideal candidate, you have an Undergraduate university degree in a related field and five years or more of related leadership experience or a combination of equivalent education and/or work experience. You bring strategic planning and budget preparation experience, and the ability to collaborate with a team to meet organizational objectives. Proactive and energetic, your ability to inspire and include others creates an environment where diversity, inclusion, innovation, and compassionate care is paramount. You live, nurture, and demonstrate your passion and commitment for the values of compassion, respect, dignity, inclusion and community every day, aligning with the values of The Gathering Place. With a growth minded vision, you have a high-level understanding of fund development including public and private funding and project financing. Your excellent communication skills and ability to build and nurture a high performing team and develop strong partnerships are evident through past successes, ideally in a non-profit environment. You have significant knowledge and/or experience in community and primary health care and social determinants of health. Your knowledge, understanding and passion for working with vulnerable individuals in the community are some of the key reasons you are excited about this opportunity.
