Under the direction of the Director of Policy and Planning, the Assistant Director will support the Director of Policy in day to day management of the unit with a special focus in identifying and advancing marine related files.

Candidate of choice will have a Diploma or Degree in Policy Studies, Regional Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, Resource Management, Biology, Environmental Law or a closely related field.

Candidates shall have the ability to formulate and amend policy options, develop and/or assess Nunavut-wide marine policy interests and initiatives, taking into consideration the interests of the Designated Inuit Organizations, assist in developing engagement strategies, including pursuing greater involvement in the management of shipping activities, such as the development and implementation of low impact shipping corridors, marine conservation areas, and other relevant initiatives.

Applicants should have knowledge of marine policy issues, general understanding of integrated resource management systems and approaches, understanding of broader environmental and resource management legislation, policy and general issues facing Inuit, particularly as they relate to the marine environment. Applicants should have knowledge of the Nunavut Agreement, knowledge of the network of Inuit Organizations in Nunavut, and their relationships to Governments and Institutions of Public Government.

Starting salary is $105,215.00 per annum (commensurate with experience) with $24,000.00 per annum of Northern and Housing allowance and a comprehensive benefit package including an employee pension plan, group insurance and vacation travel assistance.
