WHITEHORSE—Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Scott Kent will attend the 29th Dawson City International Gold Show this weekend along with Minister of Economic Development Stacey Hassard and Minister of Environment Wade Istchenko.

“The Yukon government’s commitment to the placer mining industry is strong,” Kent said. “I look forward to meeting with placer miners and the Klondike Placer Miners’ Association while I’m in Dawson. We will all continue our work for the benefit of the industry, our economy and all Yukoners.”

The Yukon government supports the placer industry through the Yukon Mineral Exploration Program. Earlier this month, 15 placer projects received a total of $416,000 in funding to help locate, explore and develop their projects to advanced exploration stages.

“Placer mining has been an economic mainstay in Yukon for more than a century. Local businesses have always been, and always will be, a core component of this resilient industry,” Minister of Economic Development Stacey Hassard said.

The Dawson City International Gold Show, organized by the Dawson City Chamber of Commerce, takes place this year on May 15 and 16.
