Makigiaqta Now Accepting Applications From Nunavut Employers
(February 22, 2019 – Iqaluit, Nunavut) The Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation announces a new contribution program that will expedite review of applications for small and medium sized Inuit training initiatives. Organizations are encouraged to submit applications for funding that are in line with Makigiaqta’s mandate to ‘enhance the preparedness of Nunavut Inuit for employment.’
Makigiaqta will invest in services, capability and research, in line with the strategic priority areas of early childhood development, learning systems developed around support for success in education, foundational skills development opportunities for adults, and advanced training and post-secondary opportunities for employment in targeted sectors.
“Makigiaqta has been structured to support employers who have demonstrated commitment to training and employing Inuit in Nunavut. There is a widening gap in the wealth distribution from the economic activity in Nunavut. Through Makigiaqta we want to enable employers and individuals who are ready to help bridge the economic divide in the territory,” said Aluki Kotierk, President of Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated.
“I’d like to thank the Makigiaqta Corporation and recognize their successes. We have accomplished significant advances in targeted Inuit training initiatives over the last three years. I look forward to updates from my colleagues Minister Lorne Kusugak and Minister Patterk Netser, as they take over director positions for the Government of Nunavut,” said Nunavut Premier Joe Savikataaq.
Funding guidelines and applications for the new programs are available at the Makigiaqta Inuit Training Corporation, 626 Tumiit Plaza, Iqaluit, Nunavut, phone 867-979-7923, email: email@example.com or on-line at www.makigiaqta.com.
