Position Summary
Through an Aboriginal Mental Wellness Plan, Interior Health (IH) is committed to improving the mental health and wellness of Aboriginal populations. Five areas of focus emerge from within the Aboriginal Mental Wellness Plan: developing and enhancing of family and community based prevention, promotion, awareness, and self-care supports; meaningful engagement; building trauma-informed, cultural safe mental health and substance use services; increasing equitable access, improving transitions, and reducing barriers; and applying a continuous quality improvement lens.

The Practice Lead, Aboriginal Mental Wellness is responsible for supporting the plan, setting standards and direction for services that fall within the Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) portfolio and collaborating with other portfolios to ensure the seamless integration of client-centered services. Priority is mental wellness, with a goal of improving the wellness of Aboriginal people in the Interior in identifying patient needs, priorities and gaps in services. Assessing and identifying critical issues and opportunities in health-care, the Practice Lead, Aboriginal Mental Wellness will develop strategic recommendations for the portfolio and organization.

Crucial to the success of the position is the ability to analyze and consolidate Ministry, First Nation Health Authority, Aboriginal and other external partner and IH objectives; evidence-based practice; emerging best practices, standards, and existing or new regulatory requirements into viable operation plans for IH. This position may be required to perform other duties assigned as the newly formed Aboriginal Mental Wellness team evolves and grows. One of which is utilizing a quality improvement and project management process that includes but is not limited to the implementation of quality and project charters and quality and project management plans for outlined work.

The purpose of this role is to enhance IH’s capacity to deliver meaningful access to culturally safe, trauma-informed MHSU services. This role offers opportunity for meaningful engagement with external and internal stakeholders and making health improvements related to Aboriginal Mental Wellness within a very team based environment.

Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience:

** In accordance with Section 41 of the BC Human Rights Code and Section 15 of the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, preference will be given to qualified candidates with Aboriginal Ancestry.

• A Bachelor’s degree in a clinical area supplemented by a clinical specialty Master’s degree.
• Five to seven years of recent, related experience in the field of Mental Health and Substance Use.

Skills and Abilities:
Demonstrated knowledge and ability to work with Aboriginal populations, incorporating cultural safe perspectives, values, and approaches into planning.
• Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze situations and problems such that viable solutions are found. Approaches challenges and complexities from a systems perspective.
• Project management and quality improvement experience.
• Demonstrated ability to guide individuals toward a vision while maintaining group cohesion, motivation, commitment, and effectiveness.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Demonstrated ability to introduce and manage purposeful change that is consistent with the mission, vision, values, and operating principles of IH.
• Demonstrated ability to identify strategies and opportunities in a dynamic environment that lead to identified outcomes.
• Ability to utilize computer software/hardware in a Windows environment.
• Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.

** The worksite location for this position is flexible within the Interior Health region **
